This week I started at my new job. It’s always a nervy time starting at a new job, and it comes with a fresh dose of imposter syndrome, awkwardness and a general new kid in class feeling (this can’t be helped).

With this in mind, things have been good however. The people I have joined alongside have been lovely, and the people introducing me to the business have been very welcoming.

The thing I wanted to discuss this week, is a tool called Gather, which is maybe the oddest but also perhaps best part of the new role. Gather attempts to close the distance between those that are working remotely by creating a virtualized office for employees to exist in.

It has a number of benefits that may not seem to be immediately obvious. It gives everyone their own space to personalize. It also allows people to show that they are open for discussions.

As a new joiner it certainly has helped with the slight sense of isolation that can come from the remote experience. It uses features such as proximity chat in order to make it a more lifelike experience.

Anyway. With that in mind, here is my desk :)
